A highlight for me was being Technical Director for the Formula Student team here at Surrey. They fulfil the requirements for employment in private sectors such as service advisors, fleet control engineers, automotive insurance companies’ assessors and public departments such as the Road Transport Department. In addition, the University is the home of the Institute for Automotive and Manufacturing Advanced Practice (AMAP), which builds on Sunderland’s role as a centre of excellence in the manufacturing and assembly of cars. Taught subjects include A Review of Selected Automotive Technologies, Manufacturing Management, Design and options from Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Strength of Materials and Machine Dynamics. Typical careers span a wide range – professional mechanical engineering, general engineering and manufacturing.
