The graduate program in automotive engineering is offered through the Clemson University Department of Automotive Engineering. Such development was possible through the convergence of automobile and IT technology and the scope of IT technology that will be applied to automobile in the future will be further expanded. The primary facility for the automotive engineering program is the Carroll A. Campbell Jr. Graduate Engineering Center (CGEC) located on the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research(CU-ICAR) campus. As well as a connected programme of lectures and tutorials, you will undertake experimental laboratory work, engineering fabrication, drawing and design, computing and application based mini-projects. You will learn about the most important issues for managing in an engineering environment. During the foundation year you will learn about the various Engineering programs available.
Our graduates are renowned for their ability to apply themselves to engineering challenges, as well as possessing excellent practical skills which support a thorough grounding in analytical engineering. Perform or execute manual or automated tests of automotive system or component performance, efficiency, or durability. We put particular emphasis on computational methods and software packages in automotive engineering analysis, design and manufacture. Our recent graduates have gone on to work for companies such as McLaren Automotive, General Motors, Jaguar, Perkins Engines and Parametrics Technology.
The practical aspects of automotive engineering are introduced as early as Level 1 in the form of laboratory experiments on existing vehicle sub-systems, which then lead to more advanced laboratories in Level 2. These include specialist areas such as • aerospace • automotive transport • building services • medical engineering • sport equipment design • power generation • alternative energy • automation and robotics • product testing • project management. It’s important to gain experience through a work placement, internship or a year in industry, which may be part of your degree course. Our graduates typically enter work with blue chip engineering companies, and are expected to progress to Chartered Engineer status.
You will learn how to apply the knowledge and skills developed earlier in your degree programme whilst also extending your learning through a deep investigation of a topic of your choice. It impresses with its research-oriented characterization, opening up explicitly the prospect of further qualifications after the Master’s degree in the direction of doctoral degree. If you have an engineering foundation degree or HND only, you may be able to start in a technician post. Physical understanding of automotive vehicle dynamics, including simple lateral, longitudinal and ride quality models will be acquired.
The opportunity to obtain a degree which is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) The MEng route fully meets the examplifying academic benchmark requirements, for registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng). Students are also responsible for the logistics and management of the team, with students from the Motorsport Management degree participating. This will lead to increasing demand for professionals with the right knowledge and skills in automotive design and manufacture. To enable students to relate the theory of automotive braking and solve problems in motor vehicle systems. Students who do a work placement are more likely to graduate with a better degree and get higher quality work on graduation.
